Hi there. I’m Hannah, and this is my family.

We own Amyx Place, and let me tell you what a blessing it has been!

Amyx Place is the realization of a dream I had of one day owning my own unique marketplace and event center. Along with my husband and best friend, Lucas, we have attempted to create a quaint little space that showcases the amazing talent in our area by carrying local artisans’ and fellow dreamers’ products, while offering a wide range of gift options for any special person or occasion in your life — even if that special person is yourself!

The Story of Amyx Place

Amyx Place began with a local family, one cow, and a simple need in West Plains: bottled milk. Elbert and Mildred Amyx started bottling and selling extra milk to neighbors at a time when bottled milk was not yet available in local stores.

In 1944, they purchased Happy Hill Dairy, renamed it Amyx Dairy, and began their first milk route with just fifteen cows. As the business expanded, the Amyx family built a pasteurizing plant and later moved into the current building at 1018 West First Street in 1953. Over the years, Amyx Dairy grew into a major local distributor, serving a 50-mile radius around West Plains, including parts of northern Arkansas.

Before the family retired and sold the business in 1981, Amyx Dairy had grown from selling a few quarts of milk to neighbors into a $1.5 million-a-year business. Even as it grew, it remained a true family-run company. Eventually, the dairy closed, but the building continued to serve the community in various ways, such as a cattle feed store and then an accounting office.

In 2021, my husband Lucas and I purchased and remodeled the building, opening Amyx Place as a retail gift shop, keeping its precious name. Today, Amyx Place honors its history while giving this beloved local building a beautiful new purpose.

When the building became available for purchase, we weren’t sure how we were going to make it all work. We had never started our own business and didn’t know much about the process. But we saw the potential and knew this was our chance, and God has blessed it — more than we could have ever imagined.

As you can see, the building has come a long way from its original state during the Dairy Days. After we purchased Amyx Place, we spent almost 2.5 years remodeling the building! We did a lot of the work ourselves, so it was a very slow process.

We had a few bumps along the way: painting the building 4 times, break-ins, and walking into someone sleeping in the bathroom, stepping on a rusty nail that almost went through my foot, a displaced shoulder after chiseling tile, a few electrocutions — all normal renovation happenings, right?

Now, Amyx Place exists as what I have always dreamed and hoped for: a place where people can feel inspired, find something unique for themselves, and share precious moments with the people they love. We give God all the glory!

More to Come

From opening day I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of blessings from God, my family, and the amazing women that have graciously opened up their inventory in Amyx Place. Every piece, person, and item has been thoughtfully woven together to create the special glimmer that glows inside our store.

In the years to come, we know that the blessings will keep coming! We are so thankful to be able to share this with our community members too. We have dreams of creating an outdoor space for guests to use and lots of other improvements still to come. They will come in time, so for now we are continuing to enjoy the ride.
